Might Know/Should Know

You might know that rather than sorting your pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters yourself and bringing them to the bank in neat little paper rolls, you can pack up your piggy bank and let your local CoinStar do it for you. Conveniently located in supermarkets and drugstores, CoinStar machines accurately count up to 600 coins a minute, then give you a voucher to redeem for cash at the store checkout. CoinStar charges a service fee of 8.9 cents per dollar – a small price to pay when you consider time is money.

You should know that instead of paying a service fee, CoinStar will redeem your coins in gift cards for their full value. You dump all your change into the machine and out comes a card for Starbucks, iTunes or whichever store or service you choose. Or, to literally donate your spare change, click on the button for charities like UNICEF, the March of Dimes and the American Red Cross, and feel a great weight being lifted.
