Does The Movie Version of “One Day” Stay True to the Beloved Book?
posted in reviews on Aug 21, 2011 for theme: summer reading lists
My parents taught me if I didn’t have anything nice to say, I shouldn’t say anything at all.
So, as someone who LOVED One Day and who gushed her way through an interview with its author, David Nicholls, I am just going to once again recommend that you read the book which touched me so deeply. I may even re-read it myself now, with Emma Morley’s eclectic playlist providing the perfect background soundtrack, and try to erase the image of Anne Hathaway struggling with a British accent and being too Anne Hathaway to ever become Emma Morley.

My next novel to movie, movie I want to see is Sarah’s Key – another one of my favorite books! Did you see that yet? I also agree with Pam about The Help – LOVED the book and the movie!!
I know! I think it’s one of those very rare times when the movie is actually as good as the book.

Pretty much what I expected; oh, well. Thanks for the heads up.
Actually, I thought “The Help” was the first movie in a long, long time that actually did justice to the book.
Thanks for that Lois – I too LOVED the book!

Completely agree. I loved both the book and movie of “The Help” — which I’ve already seen twice! Oscar nominations all around!
“Sarah’s Key” was excellent! Definitely go see it!
you are so diplomatic, Lois! Just saw the “Help” and loved it. Seemed very close to the book.
