My Personal Photos from the Movie Set of “Safe Haven”

Even writers know that a picture is worth a thousand words, so I thought I’d share my photos from my Safe Haven movie set visit last summer in Southport, North Carolina, with you. Note: writers also know that captions are helpful – or we rationalize they are – so here’s my album to get you excited about the release of the movie on  February 14. You can read about my walk with author Nicholas Sparks here and my interview with him here.

Nicholas Sparks

I checked into my room in Southport only to discover this amazing welcome basket filled with all kinds of snacks and goodies, plus a portable fan which was so thoughtful – and so necessary – in North Carolina in August!

Nicholas Sparks

We headed off to Main Street to watch the big Fourth of July parade scene being filmed. This is a key scene in the book, and maybe you’ll even catch a glimpse of me in the movie! Just look for the group of women with the rain ponchos (thank you, wonderful publicists) and the humidity-stricken hair.

 Nicholas Sparks

Just to prove I didn’t just take pictures at some random parade.

Safe Haven

Why it’s called a “director’s chair.” I am a big fan of Lasse Hallstrom’s movies, My Life as a Dog, The Cider House Rules, Chocolat, What’s Eating Gilbert Grape, the list goes on …

Julianne Hough

Not Julianne Hough. This is her double, and, yes, she fooled me, too, which is why I have a dozen pictures of her.

Lois Alter Mark

We had lunch at Fishy Fishy, the restaurant where my former favorite TV show, Revenge, was filmed. One word: hushpuppies. One more word: Yum.

Nicholas Sparks

No spoilers. See the movie.

Author Nicholas Sparks took us inside the house where Josh Duhamel’s character lives. It was fascinating to see all the little details of the production design and to hear his perspective on bringing the book to the big screen.

Safe Haven

After walking around Southport with Nick (you know, we’re like BFFs now) and sitting down with him for our real interviews, each of us was given the pair of shoes of our choice from Sole Society. I love these flats, which are so pretty and so comfortable, and I love the fact that even though one of my fellow bloggers chose the same style, they’re each unique. I can’t wait to see which ones Julianne Hough wears in the movie.

Safe Haven

Seriously, could she be any cuter?

Safe Haven

And could he?

The Safe Haven production presented the mayor of Southport with a $1500 check for the Community Boys and Girls Club.

Safe Haven

We got to take pictures with Josh and Julianne.

Notice I also took the opportunity to grab onto Josh.

Yes, Julianne is holding our Formerly Flip Flops bracelets! Ooh, I wonder if she’ll be wearing them in the movie!

My husband was the one who found or purchased all those ‘details’ of the Safe Haven sets. (He was the set buyer & also decorator for the reshoots) I just shared this with him and I could tell it made him feel good. So much work goes on behind the scenes to make movies and those folks rarely get recognition for their hard work. Thank you for appreciating the details! Enjoy the movie! :)
