Forgot those plain old bras in white, black or nude. Crafters are creating the most fun, colorful and meaningful art bras to raise awareness – and money – for breast cancer research.
As part of the month-long Byers’ Choice Thinks Pink, the Byers’ Choice Museum in Philadelphia will host a unique exhibit of Art Bras in October, featuring one-of-a-kind creations by professional fiber artists from around the world. All proceeds from ticket sales will benefit the Fox Chase Cancer Center.
In Virginia, the Chesapeake Regional Medical Center is hosting its second annual “Bra-ha-ha” competition, and will be exhibiting the dozens of entries at the MacArthur Center from October 5–17. Cosabella, maker of the “Sex and the City” girls’ lingerie of choice, has even donated a custom designed “Angel of Hope” bra to be auctioned off at the opening night gala.
Earlier this year, Adelphi University auctioned off 247 “Creative Cups” designed by students, teachers, families and breast cancer survivors themselves to benefit Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline & Support Program. Buy the “Creative Cups” coffee-table book, filled with bras with names like Mardi Bra, Bronx Bombers and Erin Go Bra, and made of everything from fabric and clay to paint, sequins and family memorabilia.
Bra-vo!
