How do lift station floats work?
The floats run off a low voltage system and use either the pump controller or a printed circuit that activates the pumps. Each pump also has a hand-off-automatic (HOA) switch. The hand position (H) runs the pump (in manual mode) and the automatic position (A) runs the pump off the level sensors.
Why does my ejector pump keep running?
The most common cause of a sump pump system running continuously is when the sump pump float switch is stuck on the “on” position in your sump pit. This will cause it to run even when all water has been removed, which will burn out the pump prematurely.
Can we repair float switch?
You can sometimes repair float switches by wiping away grime from the float mechanism and switch. If that doesn’t work, then you need to replace the float switch.
What happens when a lift station fails?
In the event of a lift station failure, by either a forcemain break, power outage, or pump failure, wastewater will collect in the lift station wet well and backup into the collection system. This could result in sewer backups into homes or cause wastewater to overflow from the lift station to the surrounding environment.
How does a lift station work?
The lift station is really pretty simple. The wet-well is the basin the pumps sit in. There are two pumps, each with its own check valve and gate valve. The check valves stop flow from coming back into the station when the pump shuts off and also keep one pump from pumping back through the other. There are four control floats in the wet-well.
How do I Stop my lift station from overflowing?
I have seen several instances where a lift station overflowed only because the floats were dirty. Check them daily. Clean them regularly. Turn the HOA switches back to auto. Use the mirror and look at the water level. Is there a large thick mat of grease and junk floating on the water? If so, you need to get rid of it.
Why are wet well lift stations Bad?
Wastewater lift stations can be a source of bad odors that become a nuisance to neighboring properties. The smelly gas from the collected sewage is also highly corrosive and can damage the wet well structure, the piping, and pumps over time. How much does it cost to fix a wastewater lift station?
