How was the subway cave formed?
Subway Cave was created when large amounts of lava were flowing across all the area around the present-day location of Hat Creek. The lava on top, exposed to the air, cooled and formed a hard cap while molten lava continued to flow beneath. Eventually, the molten lava drained away but the hollow tubes remained.
Are dogs allowed on subway cave?
Dogs are allowed on leash in the park other than in the Subway Cave. In the past, dogs were allowed in the Subway Cave but they are not anymore. If you want to check out the lava tube take a self-guided tour of the Subway Cave. Someone will need to stay outside the cave entrance with the dog.
