What is a LISS plate?
Table of Contents
The LISS plate is an internal fixator used as an extramedullary splint, fixed to the two main fragments, leaving the intermediate fracture zone untouched. Anatomical reduction of intermediate fragments is neither sought nor necessary.
What is Hoffa fracture?
The Hoffa fracture of the distal femur is a rare injury described as a coronal fracture of the femur involving one or both of the condyles. The distal, condylar end of the femur has a trapezoid shaped anatomy and articulates with both the tibial plateau and the patella.
Why is Liss important?
Like other forms of exercise, LISS cardio has many health benefits, including improved blood flow, reduced stress, lower risk of heart disease, and improved brain function. Here are some other benefits of LISS cardio: It aids in fat burning and fat loss.
How do you fix a broken Hoffa?
When a Hoffa fracture occurs in association with a distal femoral fracture, both surgical approaches, including the direct lateral or lateral parapatellar approach, are commonly used. For fixation of a Hoffa fracture, an A-P screw is easier to apply via the parapatellar approach.
What is bumper fracture?
A bumper fracture is a fracture of the lateral tibial plateau caused by the bumper of a car coming into contact with the outer side of the knee when a person is standing. Specifically, it is caused by a forced valgus applied to the knee.
How long does it take to recover from a distal femur fracture?
Most distal femur fractures are treated with surgery. The broken bone will take a minimum of 2 months to heal. Some can take more than 6 months to heal. Surgery may take place anywhere from 1-5 days after your injury.
What is the proximal end of the femur?
Proximal femur includes the femoral head, neck and the region 5-cm distal to the lesser trochanter. There is a 125°–130° inclination angle between the head and neck and the femoral body.
How long should you do LISS for?
How long should you do LISS cardio? For an activity to be considered LISS, it generally needs to be sustained for at least 30 minutes. (HIIT, by contrast, alternates between short bursts of intense activity and rest periods, with the former typically lasting no more than two minutes.)
What is the Liss system for the treatment of distal femoral fractures?
Fankhauser F et al. (2004) Minimal-invasive treatment of distal femoral fractures with the LISS (Less Invasive Stabili- zation System). Acta Orthop Scand 75 (1):56–60 Haas NP et al. (1997) LISS – ein neuer Fixateur intern für distale Femurfrakturen [LISS – a new internal fixator for distal femoral fractures].
Where is the Liss plate on the femur?
When the LISS plate lies flat on the lateral surface of the condyle, it has been positioned correctly on the distal femur. The plate is angled 10° posteriorly and must be firmly placed against the femur. 7. Preliminary plate fixation
How is a Liss plate inserted in a fracture?
The LISS plate is commonly inserted using minimally invasive techniques, leaving the soft tissues intact around the fracture site. Incisions are made proximally and distally, and the LISS plate is inserted into a submuscular tunnel. This normally requires image intensifier monitoring.
Can screws be inserted without the Liss insertion guide?
Note: In certain cases (e.g. proximal fracture treated with a short plate) it may be advantageous to do the surgery without using the LISS insertion guide and the corresponding LISS instruments. Then, screws can be inserted by applying the technique described in the surgical technique Locking Compression Plate (LCP): DSEM/TRM/0115/0278.
