Gossypiboma can cause infection or abscess formation from an early stage, or it can remain clinically silent for many years. Gossypiboma can be diagnosed using several methods including abdominal X-ray films, US of the abdomen, contrast-enhanced computed tomography of the abdomen, and during surgery.
