The gun and unloader make up a two-part valve system that directs water into bypass back to the pump or float tank. The gun shuts off the flow of water, causing the unloader to re-circulate the water back into the inlet side of the pump. This is called sending the water into bypass.
How do I know if my pressure washer unloader is bad?
If the valve does not work correctly, the pressure washer pump will get hot, and more power is asked from the engine. If you have a gas pressure washer, you can hear more engine noise due to the higher load. Water leaks and inconsistent output pressure are also signs that there is a problem with the unloader valve.
How to replace unloader valve?
– Run water through pressure washer until all air is removed from the hose. – Check your air filter. Clean if dirty and replace if damaged. – Check oil level. Change if needed. – Top off fuel in tank. – Make sure your spark plug is connected to the wire. – If your engine was smoking:
How to adjust unloader valve on pressure washer?

Why do you need a valve adjustment?
Cylinder head noise will increase due to tapping effect on valve stem tips.
