A grid lighting system is one where by you control multiple ‘zones’ of lighting from one lighting system/ unit. What does trailing edge dimmer mean?
These more modern dimmers have many benefits over the leading edge type. These improvements include smoother dimming with less buzzing and interference. Trailing edge dimmers have a much lower minimum load than the leading edge, making them far more suitable for powering LEDs.
What is a grid switch used for?
The first use of a grid plate switch is when you want unusual/non-standard switch combinations on one plate. This normally means a combination of intermediate light switches and two way (or one way) switches. Two way switches are used when there are one or two switches controlling one light or set of lights.
Can you have a dimmer on a 2-way switch?
If you have a 2-way circuit (where the same lights are controlled by two switches) you must choose a push-on/push-off dimmer and replace one of the switches with that dimmer. You can only use one push-on/push-off dimmer in a 2-way circuit. It must be used in conjunction with a normal switch.
How do I know what dimmer I have?
Determine the number of switches that control the light group. If only one switch controls the light, purchase a single-pole dimmer. If two switches control a single light or a group of lights, you will need a 3-way dimmer. Then look at the bulb type you are going to be using and pick the right type of dimmer.
