Shocklands (which allow you to “Shock” yourself in order to get an untapped land) have many advantages: Good color depth without loss of tempo. Oftentimes, getting your land into play untapped is worth two life; shocklands give you the option to set that up. Excellent color-fixing with fetch effects.

Triome Lands. These are the second lands in my top land rank that comes into play tapped. Triome lands are very unique. The possibility of having land with the ability to produce three different colors is very useful and powerful at the same time in every deck.

Evolving wilds is good when you are playing more than one color, and you want to ensure that you can get a certain amount of a certain color on turn 2 or 3. Imagine you are playing a limited deck that runs Benalish Marshal (WWW), but is also playing another color, let’s say red.

Are Triomes good in modern?
While Ketria Triome is legitimately the best of the bunch, all the Triomes will make their presence felt in Modern. Basic land types obviously mean far more in a format based on fetchlands.
Does Evolving Wilds tap for mana?
It doesn’t have any mana abilities of its own and can’t be tapped for mana unless something else is giving it a mana ability.
