Although many artists fled during the Nazi occupation, Tomaszewski remained in Warsaw and tried to make a living by drawing and painting. Poland was liberated in 1944, but with that came Stalin and communism. In 1947 Tomaszewski was one of the artists hired by the government to create posters.
