Does Centrelink back pay Youth Allowance?
If you’re dependent and get Youth Allowance or ABSTUDY, we may need your parents’ or guardians’ income details each year. You may get part of your income support payment or Family Tax Benefit (Part A) early. This is an advance payment. You pay it back later out of your payments from us.

What is the one off payment from Centrelink?
The Cost of Living Payment is a one-off payment and is subject to legislation. It’s not taxable and you don’t need to report it as income for income support purposes. To get it, you must be a Centrelink or Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) customer.
Can I get Austudy if I have savings?
If they have money sitting in a bank account or liquid assets equal or exceed $5,500 for a single or $11,000 for a couple or single with dependants, this will affect the Austudy payment.
Can you get Austudy and job seeker?
You may be able to get Austudy or ABSTUDY while you’re studying. You’ll need to submit a new claim online through myGov up to 13 weeks before your course starts. This is even if you’re currently getting JobSeeker Payment or another payment.

When do I need to update my Child’s Centrelink details?
You’ll need to do this before your child’s fifth birthday. The easiest way to do this is using the Healthy Start for School review. You can do this using your Centrelink online account through myGov. We’ll send a notification to your online account that you need to complete an update.
Is the school kids bonus still available?
The School Kids Bonus is no longer available. To commence receiving the School Kids Bonus the Department of Human Services needs to be aware that you have kids in school, and that you are eligible. In most cases they will have this information and proactively remind you.
What if I don’t have a Centrelink account?
If you don’t have a Centrelink online account, you’ll need to use a One Time Access Code (OTAC). We’ll give you this code in the letter we send you through your myGov Inbox or by mail.
