Are Acans easy to care for?

Acan coral is generally hardy and easy to care for, making it a suitable species for intermediate aquarists. (Beginners may want to hold off on rushing to pick up a frag – and we’ll get to the why in a minute) The amazing color varieties make this LPS a show stopper – even for advanced hobbyists with mature tanks.
Do Acans need to be fed?
Some hobbyists like to feed their acans every day, though this can start to cause nutrient buildup from the leftovers. Instead, target feed your acan corals 2-3 times a week. This may be done at night as this is when their tentacles are most present. They really live foods like Reef Roids.
How fast do Acans grow?
The ones that are growing fast started growing new heads around 1.5 to 2 months.
Where do you put ACAN coral in tank?
The best placement for Acan corals is on the bottom of the tank, with at least 4-6 inches of space between the Acan and the other corals. Acans don’t like too much light, so putting them in a higher position will make them lose coloration, or even worse, they will bleach.
Will Acans grow on sand bed?
mine prefer the sandbed (20l so rocks are too much light imo) The lower they are the more “puffy” they tend to get. I actually started my acan out on the sandbed of my 90 gallon and it started to die. I moved it about halfway up the tank on the rocks and now it’s coming back to life.
What eats ACAN coral?
Peppermint shrimp (and others) are known to eat corals when their primary food source is depleted. If you can’t catch them and get them out, then you could try overfeeding a little. They are scavengers by nature and will find food that the fish missed.
Are ACAN corals toxic?
All corals can protect themselves with either chemicals or stingers or both, and any person can have a reaction to any coral. Acanthastrea sp. corals do have sweeper tentacles and can be aggressive to nearby corals, but shouldn’t be able to harm corals ~ 2″ away. Most people will not have a reaction to their sting.
How do Acans multiply?
they will grow by adding heads in most cases. sometimes it seems like mine have heads splitting, but mostly i see small heads “budding” in new locations and increasing in size. certain acans i have seem to grow quite well.

Most are on fairly large frag disks and will probably take awhile to out-grow them. I have a large acan colony, 40+ heads on the sand the does very well. Although it’s almost too big to put anywhere else, so that one is staying put.
