What is SC Read to Succeed?
The Read to Succeed Act, enacted in 2014, stresses the importance of reading at every grade level. It seeks to ensure that every student is reading on grade level and graduates from high school with the reading and writing skills needed to be college and career ready.
What is Read2Succeed?
Read2Succeed is a program that supports first and second graders on their reading journey. Reading volunteers are matched with first and/or second grade students at participating OCPS elementary schools to improve their vocabulary, reading fluency and reading comprehension.

The “2” in Read 2 Succeed is indicative of the 2 books read each academic year, as well as the 2 foundational goals of the program: Have fun reading and discussing an important book with peers and community. The South Carolina College- and Career-Ready Assessments (SC READY) program is a statewide assessment in English Language Arts (ELA) and mathematics administered to students in grades 3–8 as required by the Education Accountability Act.
How many teaching credits do I need to renew in SC?
120 renewal credits
To qualify for Professional certificate renewal, educators must complete the equivalent of 120 renewal credits.
What happens if you fail SC ready?
The South Carolina Read to Succeed Act states that a student must be retained in third grade if the student fails to demonstrate reading proficiency at the end of third grade. The law specifies six good cause exemptions from mandatory retention; one of these exemptions is student attendance at a Summer Reading Camp.

How long does a SC teaching certificate last?

Teaching Certification Renewal Your initial South Carolina teaching certificate is valid for three years. In order to move up to a Professional Certificate, you must meet the requirements of your school district’s ADEPT formal evaluation.
Why is SC ready important?
Reporting of SC READY Results Performance levels reflect the continuum of knowledge and skills exhibited by students and are useful for evaluating a school’s overall performance. The SC READY test results are one of the measures used in calculating the Report Cart and accountability ratings.
Is SC Ready mandatory?
The SC Ready and SC PASS tests must be given to students in-person. Spearman said virtual students will not be required to come to schools to take the SC Ready and SC PASS this year, since the federal agency waived a requirement that penalizes schools if fewer than 95% of students take the test.

This effort is led by United Way of Greater Lafayette, Greater Lafayette Commerce and all three local public school corporations. More than 70 businesses and organizations in Tippecanoe County have pledged their support to Read to Succeed.

We invite community members to volunteer in a classroom for one hour each week during the school year. This is a significant commitment, but your time and effort will make a difference. Our schools are already seeing results, and Read to Succeed is a part of improving student achievement.

All Read to Succeed renewal courses are offered for $85.00 and are worth 60 renewal credits. Cohorts are offered by request for all Read to Succeed courses.
